Kevin training student Lily successfully enters Queens 22, New York City as teaching assistant
New York City has made great changes to special education since last year’s special education reform. Special education students, unless the situation is very serious, must return to the home annex school. Each public school may have a special education class (usually 12 students, a teacher and an assistant teacher). Therefore, the demand for teachers’ assistants in public schools is also rising, especially for bilingual teaching assistants.
Preschool If students receive special education (with personal learning program IEP, individual education program). A comprehensive assessment is required before entering the kindergarten. If the assessment proves that the student is worse than the normal child in some respects, he or she may be recommended to attend special education classes or other special education services. Students who need special education, if they have difficulties in English, may be assigned a bilingual para, federal and state government special funds to pay for special education.
Students with a more serious situation are sent to the 75 school district special school (District 75). Other teaching assistants (such as behaviors) may be assigned to help the child to stay with the child from the kindergarten class until he does not need it.
Lily successfully passed the exam after training in the New York State Teacher Assistant Certificate Examination at Conway Training. Afterwards, with the help of friends and teachers at the Kenwei Training Week, he visited the principal of the nearby public school to find a job. Hard work pays off, and PS 22’s principal Jennifer Meyer is just looking for a Chinese-English bilingual assistant tutor for Chinese children who need special education. The principal nominated Lily on the spot to the Municipal Education Bureau to handle the formalities. Because her New York State Teacher Assistant certificate had not yet been issued, the principal wrote a letter to the State Department of Education, and within two to three days, the certificate immediately fell.
After the appointment of the principal, Lily ran to the Municipal Education Bureau to complete the subsequent registration and review. In addition to looking at Lily’s original academic background, the Municipal Bureau of Education assessed the background of the model and assessed Lily’s speaking and writing. Two to three days later, the Municipal Bureau of Education emailed Lily to pass the review.
After a 25-day full time Substitute TA, Lily became a full-time assistant with the approval of the principal. Lily joined the United Teacher Federation UTF and enjoyed the union. Welfare and protection. Now Lily’s daily working hours are from 8am to 2pm Wednesday to Friday, and from 8am to 3:30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, and lunch time of 1 hour at noon to enjoy the same government benefits as the teacher. The salaries of assistants working in the public schools are as follows: a high school diploma of $23,000, a university diploma of $26,000, and a substitute para-language of $133 per day.
Lily suggested that Kevin’s training students should test the New York State Teacher Assistant Certificate by September because the public school needs new assistants and teachers in September and there are many new job opportunities. Based on the experience of training many years of training and teaching assistants at Kenwei, Chinese people want to enter the New York City public school as the teaching assistants in two main ways:
1. Find the appointment of the principal and go to the Municipal Education Bureau to complete the registration. The appointment and removal of personnel in the New York City public school is the principal responsibility system, and the principal has the right to hire.
2. Apply to the City Board of Education to become a substitute TA. You have the opportunity to go to each school as a substitute teacher’s assistant, accumulate experience, and then look for opportunities to turn into full-time assistants. Substitute teaching assistants are part-time and do not enjoy normal school benefits. The daily salary is $133.
In 2010, Kenwei Training established the New York Public School Teacher Assist Examination Training Course. According to our many years of observation, the weak points of the Chinese are spoken English and the methods and environment of American children’s education. The Kenwei training suggests that Chinese who are interested in working in the education industry in the United States should refer to the following career paths.
1. First go to the certificate of a New York State Public School Teacher Assistant;
2. Then enter the private schools opened by the Chinese, such as Red Apple, to accumulate experience as a teaching assistant. Since private schools are also regulated by the government, school operations are strictly in accordance with the laws of the Education Bureau and the operation of public schools.
3. After accumulating 1-2 years of experience, look for opportunities to apply for teaching assistantships in public schools.
4. While working in the public school, continue to read the New York State Teacher Qualification Certificate and become a professional educator. Wish you to realize the American dream!
